EVENTS TO SUPPORT YOUR FURRY FASHIONISTA

So we think we are fashionistas - that is until our posh pooches let us know who top dog really is. If you are up for some furry fashionista fun, October is the month for it. Beginning this Saturday with Bark in the Park at Veterans Park in Alabaster its the 1 mile Mutt Strut. So bring your pup and support the Shelby County Humane Center. Visit www.shelbyhumane.org/bark. You could also win a Posh Pooch Gift Basket from My Scoop with a 'Treated Like Royalty' ceramic treat jar, a Michael Simon designed sweater, a wool doggie sweater, and a high heel shoe toy from Generation Dog.

Then on October 30 at Rosewood Hall get ready for the Wine Diva event benefiting Hand in Paw!
By: Elizabeth Drennen
“What’s a diva to do on the eve’ before All Hallows? Eat hors d’oeuvres, drink wine, and be scary? A better option is to get all dolled up, dressing like the diva you know you are (or have always wanted to be,) and trot down to Rosewood Hall SOHO (located within the Homewood City Hall building) for the exclusive Wine Diva event, which benefits Hand-in-Paw, on Tuesday, October 30th, from 6-8 pm! Wine Diva is THE premier, ladies-only, wine event in Birmingham, and caters to women who love spoiling themselves- after all, the very next evening, on Halloween, you’ll probably be stuck handing out Hershey Bars to sticky fingered tots and cursing those little monsters as they inhale yet another sweet tart (without gaining an ounce!), so why not take an evening all to yourself to celebrate being you, being fabulous, and being a diva! The Grape of The Summit is serving twenty four different types of wines as well as their tasty “Crushed Grape Fare” hors d’oeuvres so, rest assured: no diva will go thirsty! As well, our very own My Scoop is sponsoring a costume contest: Come dressed as your favorite diva and have the chance to win fabulous prizes from select, local, chic shops. Photos will be posted on the site, and readers can log on and vote, once again, for the best dressed Divas!
Perhaps the best portion of the evening will be the crowning of the Fall Wine Diva, which will be chosen by raffle, who will have the opportunity to be featured on the lauded television show, “Birmingham Nights” (hosted by Cassie Moore, a Wine Diva in her own right), www.birminghamwine.com, and, of course, My Scoop. Norton’s Florist is donating a generous bouquet of flowers to the winner, because every diva needs a little floral enhancement whilst wearing a crown and rocking a royal title. As well, the Queen Bee of Beverly Hills, Rebecca Grelier, will be there peddling her “wears,” an assortment of designer handbags, ranging from Prada, Chanel, Gucci, Fendi, Burberry, Celine, Tods, Hermes, Ferragamo, YSL, Marc Jacobs, Dior, and just about any other luxury brand you can think of, all at a wholesale cost! Local jewelry designer Galatea of Galatea Designs will be on hand to show off her latest collection of gems and fine jewelry pieces, as well as provide a special, secret ring for the Fall Wine Diva. Even better, a portion of the proceeds of all sales of the designer goods and jewelry will help support Hand-in-Paw’s mission so you can shop til’ you drop, all the while, helping lift up some of the sick and suffering in our community. You can pre-order your Wine Diva jewelry and/or holiday gifts by going to www.galateadesigns.com, and simultaneously support Hand-in-Paw. This Wine Diva could not be more spectacular, nor more geared to women if we tried! An array of marvelous gifts are being gathered as you read this and these wonderful prizes will be raffled off in packages. Bring your $$ wallets $$ because those raffle tickets will be selling faster than you can guzzle a glass of merlot!
In addition to the crowning of the Fall Wine Diva, all women who attend the Wine Diva event will receive a special “Wine Diva Discount” card giving them ten percent off their bill anytime they nosh and sip at The Grape at The Summit. That, alone, is worth the trip to the event. The Grape will be taking orders for the wines they serve (which are sure to be pleasing to even the most seasoned of palates), and will donate twenty percent of those profits back to Hand-in-Paw, which is why we should all take great care to do our wining (not to be confused with whining) and dining up there at The Grape at The Summit. The first 200 divas to turn in ten raffle ticket stubs will win a Diva Delight Gift Bag full of prizes like a diamond ring dog toy from Generation Dog.
The Wine Diva t shirts go on sale this week and are being created by the always generous Mark Reimer of J. Rags with design by Terri Dann (who has literally outdone herself on this one, the design is so stunning!) We have a variety of colors, styles and sizes.
Get your $50 Wine Diva tickets TODAY by going to www.handinpaw.org, and clicking on the Wine Diva link on the right of the web page, or call 322-5144. Tickets and t- shirts are limited and will go on a first come first serve basis, so hurry to reserve your chance at the Crown!
***Wine Diva supports the mission of Hand-in-Paw which provides the animal/handler therapy teams to help people heal. Hand-in-Paw serves over 60 facilities in three counties including hospitals, schools, nursing homes and social services agencies; Hand-in-Paw never charges for its services, and this year alone, made over 40,000 patient/client contacts. Supporting the Wine Diva event is a marvelous way to help Hand-in-Paw continue their valuable mission throughout the greater Birmingham area.
